This weekend I am going to the Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show to find my unicorn of accessories: a 1980s vintage Gucci wallet. I have been looking for this ever since I saw its beauty at the Spitalfields market in London about 10 years ago.
The Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show will take place on Sunday, April 10, 2016, from 10am to 5pm at the Shaw Centre, which is the same place I styled Faduma Sidow’s Fashion Shoot. The show is comprised of independent fashion vintage brands from Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto who set up shop to sell thousands of vintage clothing and accessories, for both men and women. The collections include classic fashion items such as throwback pencil skirts or kitten heels that style icon Audrey Hepburn favoured during her signature collaborations with Hubert de Givenchy. It will be a treat to step into throwback fashions that transport us to another time by way of nostalgia or imagination. These are two notable vendors to do just that:
The Handbag Gallery
For women who love designer handbags (and what woman doesn’t?) will be head-over-heels for Ottawa based first time participant The Handbag Gallery. Owner Carol MacKay is a long time vintage clothing vendor who focuses on superb quality vintage handbags such as Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Nina Ricci and Fendi.
Ian Drummond Collection
Toronto based Ian Drummond Collection is one of Canada’s largest suppliers of vintage clothing for television and films. Ian recently had the rare opportunity to acquire a very large collection of iconic fashion from the eighties. The purchase of largely spring and summer fashion yielded items such as blouses, skirts, dresses, pants, skirt suits and tank tops and will be offered for sale for the first time in Ottawa.
Admission is $10; Discount pass available online at www.OttawaVintageClothingShow.ca
